Access to Information Requests
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy
The Village's Policy regarding records retention and public access to records are governed by The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP).
This legislation governs all public bodies in Saskatchewan and dictates
how the Village can collect and use personal information, as well as which
information can and cannot be disclosed to the public. LAFOIP
is a provincial Act that aims to strike a balance between the public's
right to know and an individual's right to privacy.
The Village of Buena Vista strives to operate
in an open and transparent manner providing individuals with access to
records in the possession or control of the Village with limited and
specific exceptions. In general, the Village is committed to proactively providing information,
however, when specific information is requested that is not otherwise
available, individuals may apply to the municipality through LAFOIP.
Examples of records that may require an Access to Information Request include:
LAFOIP also requires the Village to protect the personal privacy of the
people whose information we have. It tells us how to collect, store, and
use your personal information, and who we can give it to. It also lets
you correct your own personal information if you think we have it wrong
in our records.
The majority of information held by the Village of Buena Vista can be accessed through the normal release of information by staff, without using the Act.
